The
Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan participated in the second "Social
Justice at School" 2nd conference, held on October 21 to 22, with the aim
of serving as a public platform for advocacy of social justice, discussion of
the causes and manifestations of social injustice, dissemination of advanced
pedagogical experience and educational solutions in public educational
institutions, bringing together local and international actors of education.
The
Defender emphasized the importance of the event in terms of contributing to
social justice, solidarity and equality of the environment through the
development of skills and knowledge. "Education has a special meaning for
me, because I teach and learn all the time as well. I am sure that a person
should be educated and improved throughout his/her whole life. The existence of
a proper education system is extremely important from the viewpoint of the
functioning of the system of human rights protection. The idea of solidarity is
at the basis of the systems of social and human rights protection, and
solidarity is impossible without social justice," Anahit Manasyan stated
in her opening speech.
The
Defender pointed out that the environment existing in our society isn't very
solidar or tolerant—it's quite aggressive, in fact. She believes that the root
causes and solutions lie within the educational environment. The Defender is
consistently working to bring attention to these issues, including a
collaborative project with UNICEF to address bullying. She emphasized an
upcoming ad hoc report that will share the results of that project.
Concluding
her speech, Anahit Manasyan expressed sincere appreciation to both the
organizers and participants for establishing this crucial platform. “The role
of you, the teachers, is extremely important, even primary, in terms of forming
a harmonious social environment through education.” Recognizing teachers as
primary influencers, Anahit Manasyan highlighted that, beyond the transmission
of knowledge, they serve as behavioral role models for all. In addition to
imparting knowledge, you also have a model behavior for everyone, which can
play a significant role in creating a harmonious and tolerant environment.
Stressing the importance of carrying out individual missions with utmost
responsibility, she underscored the collective effort required for this
endeavor.
It is
noteworthy that members of the Public Council on the Rights of Children and
Youth, adjunct to the Human Rights Defender’s office, are actively
participating in the forum. An upcoming address by Anahit Khachatryan, the Head
of the Children's Rights Protection Department of the Human Rights Defender's
Office, will delve into the topic of "Effective teacher-parent cooperation
in allowance on the best interest of the child."
