Today, on October 16, the Human Rights Defender Anahit
Manasyan hosted Dunja Mijatović, the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council
of Europe.
Anahit Manasyan thanked Dunja Mijatović for her visit to
Armenia, as well as for the stable and effective interaction with the Human
Rights Defender's office.
Anahit Manasyan presented the issues related to the
protection of the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh,
which were raised during the fact-finding activities conducted by her
personally and by the staff of the Defender’s office.
The Defender especially emphasized the need to properly
guarantee the rights of forcibly displaced persons in the Republic of Armenia,
talking about the steps taken in that direction by the staff of the Defender's
office.
In the context of discussing the return of forcibly
displaced persons to Nagorno-Karabakh, the Defender presented facts about the Armenophobic
policy of Azerbaijan, which is manifested and encouraged at different levels of
the state.
Within the framework of the meeting, the Defender
referred to the issues of human rights protection caused by the border security
of the Republic of Armenia, stating that the presence of the Azerbaijani armed
forces in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia is quite
concerning from the viewpoint of the protection and guarantee of human rights.
In her turn, the Commissioner of Human Rights of the
Council of Europe expressed her gratitude to Anahit Manasyan for her warm
reception, comprehensive presentation of the results of the activities and
