Today,
on October 12, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan hosted the delegation
headed by Leyla Kayacik, the Special Representative of the Secretary General on
Migration and Refugees of the Council of Europe.
Anahit
Manasyan presented the issues on the protection of the rights of people
forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh as a result of the Azerbaijani
aggression, which were recorded as a result of the fact-finding activities
conducted by the Defender and the staff of the Human Rights Defender.
The
Defender especially emphasized the necessity to assess and address the needs of
forcibly displaced persons in the context of conducting awareness raising
activities for the protection of rights, developing the capacities of state and
local self-government bodies, as well as conducting communication with organizations
mandated for the protection of human rights and exchanging the best practices.
In
the context of discussing the return of forcibly displaced persons to
Nagorno-Karabakh, the Defender presented the Special representative of the
Secretary General on Migration and Refugees with facts about the Armenophobic
policy of Azerbaijan manifested and encouraged at different levels of the
state.
The
parties discussed the possibilities of programmatic cooperation with the
Council of Europe for the protection of the rights of forcibly displaced
persons, reaffirming the importance of the unhindered implementation of the
principle of the supremacy of human rights.
In
her turn, Leyla Kayacik emphasized the role of the Human Rights Defender’s
office in the implementation of the important mission of human rights
protection, expressing confidence in the continuous strengthening of
cooperation.
