On
October 9-10 the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan participated in the
General Assembly of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions
(ENNHRI) in Brussels.
2023
is a jubilee year. It is 10 years since the network was formed. Nina Pirumyan,
Secretary General of the Defender's Office, also participated in the Assembly.
The
agenda of the discussions included a number of issues related to the protection
of human rights in different regions and sectors. The representatives of
national human rights institutions of more than 40 countries took part in the
meeting.
During
conversations with international partners, Anahit Manasyan presented the
priorities of the Human Rights Defender's Office, specifically addressing the
issues related to the protection of the rights of people forcibly displaced
from Nagorno-Karabakh. In particular, the issues revealed in the result of the
fact-finding activities conducted by the Defender were emphasized.
During
separate discussions, Anahit Manasyan also presented the serious humanitarian
issues and the violations of fundamental human rights caused by the Azerbaijani
aggression, as well as the Armenophobic policy sponsored at the highest level
in Azerbaijan, which is manifested in all dimensions.
The
Defender has reached a number of agreements on further cooperation with
partners who are members of the European Network of National Human Rights
Institutions and has expressed willingness to actively engage in new
initiatives.
The
heads of the national human rights institutions also discussed the preliminary
activity plan of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions for
2024, as well as presented observations and recommendations.
