Today, from early morning, on the instructions of the Human
Rights Defender, the rapid response groups visited the police departments,
within the framework of the cases of detaining people participating in the
protests in different parts of Yerevan.
Private interviews were conducted with the detained persons, the
grounds for detention as well as the state of ensuring their rights in the
Police Departments were exemined.
The Human Rights Defender emphasizes once again that the use of
force by police officers should be in accordance with the law, in cases defined
by law and proportional.
Furthermore, the Defender calls on the participants of the
assemblies to exercise restraint and follow the requirements established by
law. The peaceful nature of the assemblies must be guaranteed.
