On
August 30, the representatives of the Human Rights Defender's office made an
unannounced visit to the "Armavir" penitentiary institution of the
Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia related to the calls received to
the hotline and the complaints addressed to the Human Rights Defender's office.
Private
conversations were held with persons deprived of liberty. The state of ensuring
their rights as well as the necessary documents and the conditions of detention
were examined.
The
representatives of the Human Rights Defender's office had discussions with the
administration of the penitentiary institution.
The
results of the unannounced visit will be summarized and appropriate letters
will be sent to the competent authorities regarding the recorded issues.
