Today,
on August 29, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with the
participants of the "Summer School" program of the National
Assembly. 61 children from Yerevan and
different regions of Armenia participated in the meeting. The Defender
presented the scope of competencies of the Human Rights Defender and the main
directions of activities.
"I want to emphasize the importance of
holding such meetings. I also learn a lot from you during such conversations
and I am sure this is not our last meeting. We will come out of here with new
ideas, which we must implement together," stated Anahit Manasyan.
Anahit
Manasyan talked with the children about issues related to the protection of
human rights, the fight against bullying, hate speech, intolerance and
discrimination. Reference was made to recent events regarding the cases of
abduction of persons by Azerbaijan moving to Armenia. The meeting was held in a
Q&A format.
The
Defender presented the activities of the councils adjunct to the Human Rights
Defender and stated that a public council on national minorities adjunct to the
Human Rights Defender will be formed soon, which will work on issues of
protection and promotion of the rights of national minorities.
At
the end of the meeting, the Defender expressed her willingness to participate
in such meetings in the future, adding that she will be happy to welcome them
in the Human Rights Defender’s office in the near future.
