During
the preparation and holding of the regular elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders
to be held on September 17, 2023, a working group comprised of the Human Rights
Defender’s staff representatives has been established under the guidance of the
Defender Anahit Manasyan in order to ensure the guarantee of electoral rights
and the most effective protection within the framework of the powers vested to
the Human Rights Defender by law. The working group will monitor publications
on alleged violations of electoral rights, including alleged violations of the
rights of observers and the representatives of mass media.
Additionally,
the group will ensure proper examination of written and verbal applications and
complaints, including hotline and other phone numbers. The working group will
cooperate with representatives of civil society organizations, mass media and
organizations conducting observations.
The working group will also be responsible for legal guidance, reception
of citizens, as well as rapid response visits. In accordance with its established
working procedures, the staff of the Human Rights Defender will work in an
emergency mode on the day of the election, monitoring and responding to alleged
violations of human rights, as well as taking appropriate measures in relation
to them within the framework of the Ombudsman's competences.
