The protection of human rights implies individual work
with people. Such meetings facilitate a better understanding of the problems
existing in different social groups and their causes. This is one of the
formulas for achieving a positive result: stated the Human Rights Defender
Anahit Manasyan at the meeting with the student journalists, undergoing a
three-month internship in Factor TV.
The Defender presented to the future journalists the
main mission of the Human Rights Defender, spheres of activity and the scope of
competencies.
She informed the students that the Human Rights Defender
is an independent, apolitical body whose mission is to protect the rights of
people violated by the state bodies. Ombudsman institutions are also considered
an opportunity for the state to look at its own problems from another angle and
find quick solutions. This is the role of such institutions around the world.
The discussion continued in Q&A format. The
students were interested in various questions such as the possibilities of
creating an inclusive environment in our country, the transparency of the
Defender's activities, the features of correctly presenting information on
human rights issues in the mass media, and a number of other thematic issues.
At the end of the meeting, the Defender urged future
journalists to be extremely professional in their work, to be guided by the
principle of “do no harm” and to always observe the rules of responsible
journalism.
