Today,
on August 3, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan and deputy of the
National Assembly of Armenia, representative of the Yezidi community of Armenia
in the Parliament Mr. Rustam Bakoyan visited the Yazidi temple of Aknalich, in
Armavir province, to pay tribute to the memory of the Yazidis who fell victim
to the genocide in the city of Sinjar, Iraq in 2014.
To
respect their memory, the Defender and the deputy of the National Assembly laid
flowers at the memorial to the victims of the genocide carried out by ISIS in
Iraq.
“The
tragedy of 2014 that happened to the Yezidi people does not recognize any
nationality, and is a crime against all humanity. Such phenomena must never be
repeated, and to achieve this, it is necessary that they are recognized and
condemned by the civilized world. Today, we bow our heads once again in front
of the memory of the innocent victims of the genocide against the Yezidi
people" stated the Defender.
Ms.
Manasyan toured the temple and was introduced to the history of the Yezidi
community in Armenia and the path the community has passed with their Armenian
brothers.
The
Defender also noted that the protection of the rights of national minorities is
at the center of her attention.
