On
July 27 a workshop entitled "Strengthening the anti-trafficking monitoring
system in Armenia" was held in order to develop the capabilities of the
staff at the Human Rights Defender’s Office.
It
was organized as part of the Data for Impact (D4I) program funded by the US
Agency for International Development (USAID) for representatives of various
divisions of the Office of the Human Rights Defender.
The
purpose of the meeting was to develop the capacity of the staff to collect and
use data, to identify the danger of trafficking, and strengthen the
anti-trafficking monitoring process (C-TIP) within the Office of the Human
Rights Defender.
A
number of issues related to the use of data collection methods and tools in
fighting trafficking were discussed.
Various
questions were discussed through group discussions, such as the existing gaps
in this field, the steps taken in the direction of prevention of trafficking,
detection of victims and protection of their rights, development of effective
mechanisms, and structures, as well as the works carried out by the Human
Rights Defender in this direction.
As an
independent body, the role of the Human Rights Defender's Institute has been
emphasized, particularly with regard to its role in conducting monitoring in
the field, collecting statistical data and recording and revealing cases, as
well as submitting proposals to competent state authorities.
Summarizing
the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue the cooperation in the
specified directions.
