Today, on June 29, the Human Rights Defender, Ms.
Anahit Manasyan, participated in ThinkEQUAL Conversation: Women in Diplomacy,
Security and Peace organized by UNDP.
H.E. Ms. Andrea Wiktorin, Ambassador, Head of the
E.U. Delegation to Armenia, Ms. Anna Aghajanyan, RA Ambassador to Belgium and
Head of Armenian Delegation to E.U., U.N. Resident Coordinator a.i., Mr. Niels
Scott and H. E. Ms. Nilakshi Saha Sinha, Ambassador of India to Armenia,
attended the event.
During the panel discussion, Ms. Anahit Manasyan
emphasized the importance of equal representation of women and men in various
fields. The Defender especially emphasized that it is imperative that the
knowledge and skills of a person are evaluated first and that everyone has
equal opportunities.
“I can
share my personal experience: during the years of working in any field, I did
my best to ensure high indicators of substantive work. Even today, carrying out
the high and responsible mission of the Defender, I try to do my best to
protect the rights and interests of our citizens. This kind of professional and
integrity work is the most important guarantee of avoiding discriminatory treatment,"-
noted the Defender.
The Defender emphasized the importance of reform
of the educational system related to human rights for increasing engagement of
women in the provinces, as well as the implementation of activities with
national minorities, overcoming stereotypes related to the issue.
Speakers of the panel discussion once again
reaffirmed that the active participation of women at all levels of
decision-making processes on equal terms with men is essential for maintaining
equality, sustainable development, peace, and democratic values.
