«June 20 is celebrated
internationally as World Refugee Day.
The protection of the
rights of asylum seekers and refugees is one of the important directions of the
activities of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, which is implemented trough
the daily activities of the Defender’s Office, through the ad hoc and annual
reports, cooperation with international and domestic bodies, raising awareness,
as well as through raising the main issues of the sphere.
In the context of the
organization of the activities of the Human Rights Defender, it is of great
importance to face the challenges raised during and after emergency situation
and martial law.
Unfortunately, it
should be noted that currently, the number of refugees is growing. Therefore,
the reform and improvement of the structures for the protection of their rights
is a relevant issue. In this context, relevant bodies should make concrete
efforts to ensure the rule of law, protect the rights of vulnerable groups and
restore their violated ones, implement awareness raising activities, and ensure
the unrestricted implementation of the obligations assumed by international instruments.
The state and civil
society, national and international human rights protection structures must
agree that refugees and asylum seekers should be able to exercise their rights
and responsibilities in a way that they are certain of the status that they may
receive, the full provision of guarantees provided by the mentioned status, and
its immutability».
