On June 13, the Human Rights
Defender Anahit Manasyan received Stephan Malerius, the
head of the Regional Program “Political Dialogue South Caucasus" of the
“Konrad Adenauer” Foundation, and Liana Marukyan, the head of the Yerevan
office.
Anahit Manasyan presented to Stephan Malerius the
activities carried out by the Human Rights Defender’s office in the field of human rights protection. She referred to the problems recorded as a result of
fact-finding activities in Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, violations of human
rights in border settlements as a result of the actions of the Azerbaijani
armed forces, particularly in terms of violations of life, physical and mental integrity,
property and children's rights to education.
During the meeting, issues related to the protection of
the rights of children, women, persons with disabilities, and the fight against
violence were also discussed. Reference was also made to the priorities of the
activities of the Human Rights Defender, in particular to the steps and
programs implemented in the direction of the exclusion of hate speech.
Stephan Malerius, in turn, congratulated Anahit Manasyan
on assuming the important mission of the Human Rights Defender, emphasizing the
importance of the effective cooperation formed between the "Konrad
Adenauer" Foundation and the Human Rights Defender's office in the field of human rights
protection. She also expressed
willingness to support the interaction of Armenian-Georgian ombudsman institutions within the framework of deepening
regional cooperation.
At the end of the discussion, the parties expressed their
willingness to continue the established cooperation and implement new joint
projects.
