Today, on June
12, the
Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
received 20 future lawyers studying at the "Article 3" human rights
school.
Anahit Manasyan presented to the students the mandate of the Human Rights Defender,
the
main priorities and the directions of
activities.
The Defender
noted that the atmosphere of intolerance and the polarization of society remain
a primary issue in the context of human rights protection.
"The modern theory of human rights protection is
based on the prohibition of discrimination and intolerance. It is natural that
there may be people who do not agree with us, but the fact that they have equal
rights with us should be a benchmark for us," stated Anahit Manasyan.
In this context, the Defender particularly emphasized the
observance of courtesy norms
by public figures and officials, as their behavior serves as an example for the
public.
During the meeting, she also noted that the fate of every person is very important both for the institution and for her, personally.
"To my mind, it is important that not only the cases with public response receive attention, but also any issue that
is important for the fate of every person is addressed and gets a proper
solution," emphasized the Defender.
The students had the opportunity to get answers to their
concerns through a Q&A
session with the Defender, in particular, regarding human rights violations in
border settlements, protection of the rights of prisoners of war, the tools
available to the Human Rights Defender, guarantees of independence and a number of other
issues.
At the end of the meeting, the Defender thanked the
students, highlighting the importance of holding meetings in this format in the
context of raising the existing problems in the field of human rights
protection and increasing the level of awareness of students.
