On June 8, the
Human Rights Defender, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, received the delegation headed by the
Mission Director of USAID/Armenia, Mr. John G. Allelo.
Welcoming the
guests, Ms. Anahit Manasyan emphasized the importance of the projects
implemented by USAID/Armenia in the field of human rights protection and
referred to the reports of the U.S. Department of State on the field of human
rights protection in Armenia.
During the
meeting, Ms. Anahit Manasyan presented the issues raised within the
fact-finding activities in Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces, human rights
violations in border settlements as a result of the presence and actions of
Azerbaijani armed forces in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.
In this context,
the Defender emphasized that any political and territorial circumstances cannot
prevail over the need to protect and guarantee human rights.
Reference was made
to the priorities of the Defender’s activities, including ensuring the right to
peaceful assembly, the fight against domestic violence, and the protection of
the rights of children, women and persons with disabilities.
The Defender also
emphasized the persistence to fight against intolerance, discrimination and
hate speech within the scope of its mandate.
In turn, Mr. John
Allelo congratulated Ms. Anahit Manasyan on her election as the Human Rights
Defender.
The Mission
Director presented the details of the projects implemented by USAID.
The interlocutors
have expressed readiness to continue and further develop cooperation in the
field of human rights protection.
