On May 25, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan hosted
the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the
Netherlands to Armenia H.E. Mr. Nico Schermers.
The Defender presented to her guest the issues related to the
protection of the rights of residents of the border communities, problems that
have been created as a result of the blockade of the Lachin corridor, and
issues related to the missing servicemen. The Defender specifically referred to
the targeting of an ambulance and of medical personnel by the Azerbaijani armed
forces in one of the border communities of Armenia on May 17, stressing that it
is a gross violation of the norms of international humanitarian law.
Referring to the cooperation with the Netherlands, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan underlined the importance of the memorandum signed on November 3, 2022
with “The Institute of Liberal Politics” NGO, according to which the sides are
implementing the "Combating hate speech for the sake of pluralism and
tolerant, democratic society" project, which is financed by the Government
of the Kingdom of Netherlands.
The Defender introduced to the Ambassador the priorities of the
activities of the institution, which include the protection of the rights of
the child, women, and persons with disabilities, and the exclusion of
discrimination.
In his turn, congratulating Ms. Manasyan on her election as the
Human Rights Defender, the Ambassador stressed that he highly values the
effective interaction between the Embassy and the Human Rights Defender’s
Office.
Within the framework of the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to
continue the close cooperation.
