The Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan and PACE Irish MP
Mr. Paul Gavan discussed issues on human rights violations as a result of the
blockade of Lachine Corridor.
During the meeting held on May 31, the Defender noted that the
current situation in Artsakh made the protection of human rights vulnerable.
Ms. Anahit Manasyan particularly emphasized that children are also affected by
the Azerbaijani actions and they are actually deprived of their right to
education.
The Defender referred to the existing humanitarian crisis,
presented the issues of Armenians of Artsakh caused by the blockade and
establishment of a checkpoint by Azerbaijan.
"Many citizens of the Republic of Armenia are unable to
return to their homeland, and it’s the same situation in the case of Artsakh
residents living in Armenia, who face the same problem. The Defender’s Office
hotline receives calls about it almost every day. I regularly have
conversations with Artsakh Human Rights Defender Mr. Gegham Stepanyan regarding
abovementioned and other issues on human rights and security. The created
situation is really extremely difficult and it is necessary to urgently
guarantee the protection of human rights"-stated the Defender.
Within the framework of the meeting, the Defender also referred
to the policy of Armenophobia of Azerbaijan, which is manifested at all levels.
"Our data is not based on information from only one source.
The Azerbaijani media and social platforms are subject to daily monitoring.
Hate speech against Armenians are voiced at all levels, including at the level
of the President of Azerbaijan and various high-ranking state
officials"-mentioned the Defender.
Within the framework of the meeting, Ms. Anahit Manasyan
presented the ad hoc reports recording the activities and facts of the
Defender's Office in this direction, and also referred to the violations of the
rights of the population of the border settlements of the Republic of Armenia
caused by the activities of the Azerbaijani armed forces.
Mr. Paul Gavan is in Armenia with the aim of conducting a
fact-finding mission to prepare a report on "Addressing the Humanitarian
Consequences of the Lachin Corridor Blockade".
