Today, on May 16, the Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit
Manasyan hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal
Republic of Germany to Armenia H.E. Mr. Viktor Richter, and the Deputy
Ambassador Mr. Eric Tintrup.
Welcoming the guests, the Defender presented the programs
implemented in the fields of prevention of domestic violence, protection of the
rights of the child, as well as women empowerment. In this context, the
activities of the public councils on the rights of women, children and youth
adjunct to the Human Rights Defender were highlighted.
Ms. Manasyan presented in detail the issues that were
raised during the fact-finding activities in Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces,
the human rights violations in the border communities as a result of the
Azerbaijani aggression, the humanitarian issues as a result of the blockade of
the Lachin corridor, and the issues related to the Prisoners of War, and the
missing persons. Moreover, the Defender presented the details of her visit to
the Azerbaijani servicemen detained in Armenia, the status of the protection of
their rights, and the conditions of their detention.
During the meeting, a number of issues related to the
protection of the rights of national minorities were discussed. The Defender
also presented to the Ambassador the details of her recent visit to Strasbourg.
H.E. Ambassador Mr. Viktor Richter congratulated Ms.
Manasyan on assuming the mission of the Human Rights Defender, and highly
valued the priorities of the Defender’s activities.
The effective cooperation formed between the Defender’s Office
and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung/Foundation was also highlighted. The
interlocutors agreed to strengthen and expand the cooperation in a number of
areas of mutual priority.
