The
Human Rights Defender, Ms. Anahit Manasyan participated and delivered an
opening speech in the discussion on "Issues on Implementation of the RA
Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes and Legislative and Institutional Perspectives
of their Solution".
The
Defender stressed that it is extremely important to have proper criminal and
criminal procedure legislation from the point of view of human rights
protection and noted that the new legislation offers quite advanced regulations
in this regard.
At
the same time, Ms. Anahit Manasyan noted that the improvement of the
legislation, if necessary, is of key importance.
The
Defender also emphasized that both the application of legal norms and any
amendments to the legislation should fully comply with both domestic and
international human rights standards.
The
workshop was organized by the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs
and the United Nations Development Program. The representatives of legislative
and executive bodies, the Supreme Judicial Council, law enforcement agencies,
and judges participated in the event and presented the issues recorded in
relation to the application of the new Codes as a result of their activities.
