The
Human Rights Defender’s office hosted the students of "Yerevan State Armenian-Greek
College of Tourism, Service and Food Industry
Defender
Anahit Manasyan presented the powers and primary activities of the Human Rights
Defender to around 40 first-year students.
Within
the framework of the meeting, Anahit Manasyan and the representatives of the
office answered the questions of the students, referred to the human rights
protection, emphasizing the importance of tolerance, equality, justice and
human being as the highest constitutionally recognized value.
The
attendees were informed about the powers Human Rights Defender in safeguarding
children's rights, the rights of children outlined in the UN Convention
"On the Rights of the Child," the corresponding protective
frameworks, as well as the means by which children can reach out to the Defender.
Various communication channels were elucidated, empowering children to directly
address concerns and thereby facilitating a more efficient response.
Students
had the opportunity to raise their concerns and discuss a number of issues
related to the protection of children's rights. In particular, a number of
issues related to freedom of speech, freedom of thought and religion,
protection of personal life, protection of personal data, as well as children's
rights in relation to law enforcement agencies were discussed.
Issues
related to the problems of bullying and the distribution or the control of
personal data in social networks were also raised, within the framework of
which the methods of exercising the right to be "Forgotten" on
information platforms were presented, as well as the importance of not
tolerating and hiding violence.
At
the end of the meeting, Anahit Manasyan stated that the doors of the Human
Rights Defender’s office are always open to students.
"Such
meetings will be continuous and will become a good tradition," the
Defender added.
