The Human Rights Defender’s Office started a discussion procedure upon its initiative on the situation at the secondary school of Pyunik village in Kotayq Province. The issue was discussed with RA Ministry of Education and Science, as well as with RA Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development.
The educational process at the secondary school of Pyunik village is disrupted starting from the 1st of September. 44 pupils refuse to go to school complaining of difficulties in transportation which result particularly from 5-6 months’ long winter. These questions shall be subjected to examination by competent government authorities.
In the existing situation, there is a threat to the guarantees for the right to education of pupils attending the secondary school of Pyunik village. The State has an obligation to guarantee equal opportunities for education, accessibility and continuity of education. In this respect, the interests of child shall receive priority attention.
