On October 24, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan, participated in the high-level meeting "Revisiting our approach to joint work on rule of law" of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI), held in Sofia.
The meeting was aimed at an interactive discussion between the heads of national human rights institutes and high-level experts of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutes (ENNHRI) aimed at increasing the effectiveness of ENNHRI's work in the field of rule of law at the national and regional level under the framework of the ENNHRI Strategic Plan 2022-2025, taking into consideration the current state of the rule of law in Europe and the existing challenges.
At the high-level meeting, the activities carried out by national human rights institutions aimed at guaranteeing the rule of law and presenting recommendations to state authorities were introduced.
During the meeting, the Defender Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan delivered a speech where she referred to the questions and recommendations summarized in the 2022 Rule of Law Report of Armenia. In her speech, the Defender suggested that the network should focus on the politicization trends of independent bodies guaranteeing the independence of the judiciary in the context of the regional rule of law activities, as well as the phenomenon of Strategic Litigations against Public Participation (SLAPP), based on the concerning development at the European and national level.
