On July 16, the Human Rights Defender, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan, participated in the three-day youth camp of the "Women's Participation in Political and Civil Life" project, during which she delivered a speech on the topic entitled "Human rights and fundamental freedoms: international experience, Armenia".
During the lecture, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan presented to the audience the international fundamental instruments and protection tendencies of women's rights within the framework of human rights and freedoms as well as the mandate and peculiarities of the activity of specialized organizations.
In her speech, the Defender referred to both legislative and practical issues related to women's rights at the national level, presented the activities carried out by the Defender's office and the primary outcomes of the applications submitted to the office and shared the plan of action on upcoming activities in this particular direction. Presenting the issues of political-economic and legal empowerment of women, Ms. Kristinne Grigoryan referred to the concerning statistics of our country in this regard and presented her insights on further steps.
The Defender also had a conversation with the participant girls and women about her personal experience, difficulties and success stories as a female state official. The Defender called on the participants to be initiating, not to stop educating and advancing, to be critical about the phenomena and developments around them, and not to be afraid to voice their own dissenting opinion and to follow their bravest dreams.
The training was organized by the “Women’s Rights House” NGO in partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Twenty-five women and girls aged 18-35 from the Shirak region participated in the training.
The project aims to improve and promote the active involvement of young women and girls in democratic processes through youth camps, study visits, public forums and implementation of sub-grants, and involvement in the initiatives of the self-government communities. Individuals and groups who successfully participated in the training will have the opportunity to receive one of 6 sub-grants, which should be directed to efficient solutions to community issues.
