On October 9-10, the
Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, in cooperation with the Council
of Europe, conducted a two-day training for media representatives on the
protection of human rights in the field of biomedicine.
The opening speeches were
given by the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Mr. Arman Tatoyan, and the
Deputy Head of the Yerevan Office of the Council of Europe, Mr. Maxim Longang.
During the training
organized within the framework of the program "Protection of Human Rights
in Biomedicine", the journalists got acquainted with the basic principles
of the Oviedo Convention and the additional protocols in the field of
bioethics, the role of the Human Rights Defender in the field of human rights
protection in biomedicine, and the main issues of human rights in public health
crises.
Reports on human rights
violations in emergencies, health literacy, basic principles of health
journalism, peculiarities of collecting and dissemination of health information
were presented during the discussion.
At the end of the event,
the participants who successfully completed the two-month HELP course on
bioethics for journalists were awarded certificates.
