Freedom
of the Net 2021 report published by Freedom House human rights organization
also took as a basis the statements of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia Mr.
Arman Tatoyan.
In
particular, the report refers to the statement of the Human Rights Defender of
Armenia during the September-November 2020 war, which called on parents and
children to be extremely careful when using social networks, and in particular
to avoid using TikTok, citing the calls to violence spread by Turkish and
Azerbaijani sources.
It is
crucial that the Freedom House report uses the joint report of the Human Rights
Defender of Armenia and Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Artsakh
published at the end of 2020 on hate speech disseminated from Azerbaijani and
Turkish sources. According to the joint report, there are calls for murder,
torture, inhuman treatment and destruction of cultural heritage sites on
Facebook, Twitter and TickTok.
When
compiling the report, Freedom House considered the restrictions imposed during
the war and martial law. Last year, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia also
criticized these restrictions.
