Early this morning, the Human Rights Defender
had a phone call with Mr. Arman Babajanyan, leader of the Shirinyan-Babajanyan
people alliance's pre-election list, immediately after information about the
shooting on the windshield of his Land Cruiser Prado car was published.
Mr. Babajanyan informed that the law
enforcement bodies conducting an investigation were at his house at that moment
for carrying out respective actions.
During the phone conversation with the Human
Rights Defender, Mr. Arman Babajanyan noted that he did not exclude that the
current case may be related to the content of his speeches at the final meeting
of their alliance in Yerevan on June 18.
The Human Rights Defender considers the
shooting on Arman Babajanyan’s car, the leader of the alliance electoral list,
on the day of the voting to be extremely worrying.
The law enforcement bodies should take all the necessary measures to
ensure a prompt investigation to reveal what happened. It was recorded that the
Investigative Committee has already initiated a criminal case, appointed a complementary
forensic examination and carried out other legal actions.
