The
Human Rights Defender of Armenia Mr. Arman Tatoyan met with the President of the
Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Mr. Perch Sedrakyan and President of
AGBU Armenia Mr. Vazgen Yakubyan.
During
the meeting Mr. Arman Tatoyan presented the war crimes committed by Azerbaijani
armed forces during the September-November 2020 war, as well as raised the
issue of the urgency of the return of Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan.
The parties stated that Azerbaijani
authorities are artificially protracting and politicizing the process, grossly
violating the rights of captives and their families, causing them suffering and
causing tension in society.
The
Defender also presented the results of the fact-finding activities of the Office
Human Rights Defender in the Gegharkunik and Syunik provinces, underlining the
fact of the illegal presence of Azerbaijani armed forces in the territory of
the Republic of Armenia, which confirms the absolute necessity of security zone
around Syunik.
During
the meeting, Mr. Arman Tatoyan praised the role of the AGBU Armenian Office,
emphasizing not only the educational, and awareness-raising joint programs, and
the steps taken to improve the socio-economic rights, but also the measures
taken to accurately present to the world the human rights violations as a
result of the Azerbaijani armed aggression.
The
Defender praised the role of AGBU, specifically for analyzing and presenting to
the world the Azerbaijani war crimes and crimes against humanity during the
September-November 2020 war.
Mr. Perch Sedrakyan praised the work of the
Human Rights Defender of Armenia, noting that AGBU also follows the issues related
to the border security and the situation of the country.
The Defender
was introduced to the videos “Voices of Truth” prepared by AGBU, which aims to
present the old statistics of the war with a human face, name and history of
life, documenting the atrocities and aiming to restore justice.
The parties express their readiness to
continue and expand the direction of their cooperation.
