On May 14, the Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan visited
the Women’s “Resource center” Foundation in Goris city of the Syunik region, with
the head of enlarged community of Goris; The Defender also visited the social
enterprise of the foundation in Verishen community, which serves as a training
center for women living in difficult situations.
The director of the center Ruzanna Torozyan introduced to the
Defender the women, as well as the economic capacity development programs.
In particular, “Goris Handmade” which
produces a wide range of high quality, 100% natural wool items, including
carpets, pillows, blankets and more than 50 different animal toys was
discussed.
Ruzanna Torozyan noted that among the beneficiaries of the fund
are women with disabilities, as well as women from more than 40 families
displaced form Artsakh, who are studying and gaining a new profession to become
competitive in the labor market (handicrafts, cooking, computer skills,
accounting, hairdressing etc.).
During the discussions, the director of the foundation noted
about the support of the Head of the enlarged community of Goris, and the cooperation
with the Municipality. The important support of the UN Population Fund was also
mentioned.
The Human Rights Defender praised such programs for the
development of the women’s capacities, since the development of the country
also depends on the intensive activities of women.
“We must support the development of women’s economic potential
in every possible way, as women with financially stable incomes can avoid
violence and other forms of discrimination as much as possible. The active
involvement of women in the social-economic life of the country and the
decision-making processes is in the interests of the society.”- noted Mr. Arman
Tatoyan.
During the discussions an agreement was reached to implement
joint measures to promote the involvement of women in economic, legal and other
spheres in cooperation with the Municipality of Goris.
