Today,
the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan met with the Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
to Armenia John Gallagher.
The
Defender congratulated the Ambassador on undertaking the post, emphasizing the
joint work in the field of human rights protection.
Arman
Tatoyan presented to the ambassador the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani
armed forces during the September-November 2020war in Artsakh.
The
Defender noted that the analysis of 297 videos and photos of Azerbaijani
atrocities against Armenian servicemen and civilians, and the destruction and
desecration of the Armenian historical, cultural and religious heritage were
sent to international organizations.
The
Defender spoke in detail about the urgency of the return of the Armenian
captives held in Azerbaijan, noting that the behavior of Azerbaijani
authorities violates international requirements by presenting the captives as
“terrorists” or “saboteurs”.
The
Defender noted that the all the Armenian servicemen and civilians were captured
by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the ongoing conflict. Therefore, all of
them are captives, they should be released immediately, and return to their
homeland without any political or other preconditions.
The
Azerbaijani authorities are artificially protracting and politicizing the
process, grossly violating the rights of the captives and their families,
causing them suffering and causing tension in the society.
Arman
Tatoyan condemns the opening of so called “exhibition-park” in Baku related to
the September-November war of 2020, considering it as an evidence of
state-sponsored Armenophobia and Azerbaijani genocidal policy. The Defender
drew attention to the fact that the mannequins of Armenian soldiers in that
place are represented in a humiliating state, and the park is also open for the
children.
Arman
Tatoyan drew the ambassador's attention to the Armenophobic speeches of the
President of Azerbaijan, emphasizing that his speeches further inflame the
Armenophobia. They threaten the peace between peoples in the region
A
number of issues related to the competence of the Human Rights Defender during the
pre-election stage were also discussed at the meeting. The Defender stressed
the importance of the solidarity in the society, noting that they will carry
out apolitical monitoring of the elections.
