On the
10th of May, the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan received the
delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie headed by the Head
of the Mission of OIF Europe, Jean-Charles Luperto.
Arman
Tatoyan presented the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces
during the war in Artsakh in September-October 2020.
The
Defender noted that the analysis of 297 videos and photos of Azerbaijani
atrocities against Armenian servicemen and civilians, and the destruction and desecration
of the Armenian historical, cultural and religious heritage were sent to
international organizations.
The
Defender specifically referenced about the urgency of the return of Armenian
captives held in Azerbaijan, noting that the conduct of the Azerbaijani
authorities grossly violates international requirements for the protection of
the rights of the captives by portraying prisoners as "terrorists" or
"saboteurs."
The
Defender noted, that all the Armenian servicemen and civilians were captured by
the Azerbaijani armed forces during the armed conflict, therefore they are all captives,
and must be released immediately and returned to their homeland without any
political or other preconditions.
The
Azerbaijani authorities are artificially protracting and politicizing the
process, grossly violating the rights of the captives and their families and causing
them suffering, and triggering tension in the society.
The
Defender stressed that the highest bodies of the Azerbaijani authorities
continue the policy of Armenophobia and enmity towards Armenians. This is
evidenced, for example, by the opening of the so-called "exhibition-park"
in Baku on the September-November 2020 war. He drew attention to the fact that
the mannequins of the Armenian soldiers in that place are specially presented
in a humiliated state, and the park is open even for minor children.
Arman
Tatoyan drew the attention of the delegation of Parliamentary Assembly of La
Francophonie to the Armenophobic speeches of the President of Azerbaijan,
emphasizing that his speeches further inflame Armenophobia in the Azerbaijani
society. These speeches threaten the peace between the peoples of the region.
The
parties reached an agreement on cooperation in the field of human rights
protection.
