The Human Rights Defender Arman
Tatoyan met with students at the YSU today.
During the meeting organized
by the YSU Faculty of Law Student Scientific Society (SSS), Arman Tatoyan
presented the competence of the Human Rights Defender, explained in detail that
his competence is not to protect the rights of specific public officials from
citizens in connection with the exercise of their powers, but a person from the
actions and decisions of State or local self-government bodies and officials.
Moreover, Arman Tatoyan
reminded that of Article 16(7) of the Constitutional Law on the Human Rights
Defender directly stipulates: "
State and local self-government bodies may not lodge complaints with the
Defender”.
This is the role of national
human rights institutions around the world.
During the meeting, issues of
protection of the rights violated as a result of the military attack initiated
by the Azerbaijani armed forces against the civilian population of Artsakh and
Armenia were also discussed, and the principles of the activity and the role of
national human rights institutions in conflict and post-conflict situations
were presented.
At the end of the meeting,
the Human Rights Defender answered the inquiries of the students.
