The Human Rights Defender of Armenia
welcomes the statement of the Human Rights Watch regarding the record of
torture of the captives of the Armenian side in Azerbaijan, considering it a
step of utmost importance in the protection of human rights. The example of
this human rights organization should be followed by other international
organizations, and the respective reactions should become the basis for
imposing sanctions on the Azerbaijani authorities.
The
Azerbaijani authorities and the armed forces have grossly violated the rights
to life, health, mental and physical immunity, and property of the Armenian military servicemen and
civilians and best interests of children, and by not returning the captives,
they continue to cause mental suffering, etc. All these,
committed by the Azerbaijani authorities, are war crimes and crimes against
humanity.
People who have committed
crimes, and the Azerbaijani authorities must be brought to justice. This is an
absolute necessity to prevent such crimes in the future and to ensure a basis
for peaceful coexistence. Impunity generates new, crueler crimes.
