Today, the Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman
Tatoyan met with the President of Armenia Mr. Armen Sargsyan.
The Human Rights Defender and the President
discussed the state of work for the return of captives and finding missing
persons.
During the meeting, the Human Rights Defender
presented the concept for the creation
of a demilitarized security zone in the Syunik region to guarantee the rights
of the residents to the President. Мr. Arman Tatoyan stressed that the processes related to the borders
are carried out in the context of obvious threats of war by Azerbaijan
and the state-backed policy of hatred towards Armenians by the
highest authorities of Azerbaijan.
In addition, the servicemen of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces fires
frequently in the immediate vicinity of the villages of Syunik region, which
seriously endangers the rights to life and physical security of the residents. The
presence of Azerbaijani servicemen, signs, and flags on the roads connecting
the Syunik communities have caused provocations and anxiety from the point
of view of residents' rights. Grave violations of property rights are also
revealed.
President Mr.
Sargsyan highlighted that no official demarcation and delimitation
processes have been carried out between Armenia and Azerbaijan which means that
from the legal perspective the process of determination of state borders is at
least uncertain. All
of this is augmented by the violations or potential risks for the rights of
Armenian citizens in Syunik.
