The
Human Rights Defender has published “Protection of Human Rights in the Armed
Forces. Legal Framework for Human Rights Defender Monitoring” manual. It was
developed and published with the support of the Council of Europe Yerevan
Office within the framework of “Human rights and women in the armed forces in Armenia”
project.
The
manual addresses the protection of human rights in the armed forces and is a
crucial and practical tool for the Defender to monitor the rights and freedoms
of servicemen and the rights of women in the armed forces.
The
manual includes domestic human rights legislation, constitutional and Cassation
courts position, as well as international legal standards, including provisions
of the UN, OSCE, CoE documents, European Court judgments and decisions.
The
manual is produced based on the issues raised in the Human Rights Defender's
annual reports, includes the acts that are consistently used in the Defender's
work, it includes the acts that are always used in the Defender's work, thus it
also has a practical application. It includes legal standards on social rights
issues from the advancement of women in the armed forces, to servicemen and
their families’ military registration and conscription.
