The Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia met with the President of the Republic Mr. Armen Sargsyan.
The Human Rights Defender informed the
President about the work implemented by the Defender’s Office in recent months.
In particular, the Defender presented the issues recorded during his and his
representatives’ regular visits to the border regions of Armenia, stressing
that the Azerbaijani state bodies are continuously violating the
internationally recognized rights of the residents of the border communities of
Armenia.
The Human Rights Defender also presented his
observations regarding the process related to the state borders of the Republic
of Armenia, noting that, in relation to this process, which is accompanied by
gross human rights violations, he had already applied to the relevant
international bodies.
The President of the Republic and the Human
Rights Defender paid special attention to the work being implemented to ensure
the return of the Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held captives by Azerbaijan.
Arman Tatoyan presented detailed information
about the activities implemented by the Defender’s Office, noting that they are
cooperating with all the relevant institutions, as well as with international
organizations.
An agreement was reached, that the Office of
the President of the Republic and the Human Rights Defender’s Office will
cooperate on the process of the return of the captives, and on raising the
concerns of the Armenian side and the recorded violations in international
platforms.
In this context, the President highlighted the
professional observations, the fact-finding activities and the work implemented
by the Human Rights Defender’s Office.
