On February 5, the Human
Rights Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan had a working meeting with the Head of
the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin.
A number of issues were
discussed during the meeting, including with regard to the urgency of the
return of Armenian captives, military servicemen and civilians held in
Azerbaijan. The Defender noted that the Azerbaijani authorities are
artificially delaying and politicizing the process in order to cause mental
suffering and tension to the Armenian society and especially to the families of
the captives. In addition, the Defender presented to the Ambassador the human
rights violations in the borders determination process.
The Human Rights Defender
informed the Ambassador, that the issue of guaranteeing the rights of people
transferred from Artsakh to Armenia are also at the center of the Defender’s
attention. For example, the Human Rights Defender published an information
guide for people displaced due to the war.
An ad hoc report will be
published in the near future, which will present the needs recorded as a result
of the discussions of individual complaints (written and oral) at the Human
Rights Defender's Office since the day of declaring martial law in the country,
monitoring of social networks, the visits to the places of residence of persons
displaced from Artsakh (shelters, private houses), including the issues on ensuring
their rights.
The
parties stressed the high level of cooperation and mutual trust between the two
institutions, as well as agreed to deepen the cooperation in the human rights
protection field.
