The
Human Rights Defender's Office continues to receive alarms from parents and
teachers about the protection of children's rights in the digital environment.
Complaint
analysis shows, that parents and teachers are not sufficiently aware of the
dangers and problems of the Internet.
Recently,
dangerous games for children's lives and health have become widespread on the
Internet, which have been uncontrolled spread all over the world and are a
major threat to the healthy development of children, especially during adolescence.
Unfortunately, such games have been also spread in our country.
The
above requires from the children's parents, legal representatives, and
teachers, more attention and vigilance, concrete preventive measures, including
improvement of the safety mechanisms for children in the digital environment.
Children
also need to know how to avoid danger or how to protect themselves on the Internet,
since the environment of innovative technologies is attractive for the children.
Helpful
advice for protecting children in the digital environment can be found by
children and their parents, as well as teachers, in the Guideline to respect,
protect and fulfil the rights of the child in the digital environment” adopted
by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. This guide contains
recommendations for all Council of Europe member states.
The Office
of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia presented the Armenian translation of
the Guideline in 2018.
The
Office of the Human Rights Defender regularly organizes seminars for teachers,
focusing on raising awareness of IT teachers with regard to the safety of
children in digital environment. About 100 teachers have already participated
in those trainings.

Guideline translated by the Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenian can
