Today, the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan
received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia
Michael Johannes Banzhaff.
As a priority, Arman Tatoyan raised the issues
related to the rights of Armenian military servicemen and civilians held
captive in Azerbaijan and their immediate return. The Defender informed the Ambassador
that the Azerbaijani authorities were artificially protracting the return of
the Armenian captives, captured before, during and after the war, and the
exchange of the bodies of the victims.
During the meeting, the parties discussed
issued related to human rights in the context of the State of Emergency
declared due to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and the current
martial law.
The importance of the implementation of joint projects,
especially in the fields of protection of children and women’s rights, as well
as capacity building of journalists, were stressed.
During the meeting the parties also discussed
other issues related to the protection of human rights. In particular, the
Human Rights Defender highlighted that the conceptual approaches of the German
legal system are at the basis of the development of the criminal and criminal
procedure legislations of the Republic of Armenia.
The parties reached an agreement to deepen the
cooperation.
