The use of insulting remarks in a speech to the citizens of
Armenia in Gyumri by Vazgen Manukyan, who is presented as a candidate for the
post of Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, is condemnable. It is even
more unacceptable for his affirmation of the insulting expressions uttered by
him in a subsequent interview with a journalist.
In all cases where public figures make use of insulting words
and expressions while addressing the citizens of Armenia are absolutely
unacceptable.
In order to guarantee public solidarity in our country, public
officials as well as all public figures should refrain from using expressions
in public speeches and discourse which are offensive to the people of Armenia.
Prior to every word uttered and every phrase utilized, all possible meanings,
interpretations, and and all likely metaphorical meanings of words and phrases
must be taken into account and considered. Naturally, these standards, when
applied to a person who is considered a candidate for Prime Minister, are even
higher.
We should generally and as a matter of course, avoid talking
about each other with insults, we should respect each other's opinion, while
each of us adhere to an observance of these standards with our speech.
