It is
of great concern that that government bodies and officials, different groups of
political or public opposition, contribute to the deepening of intolerance and
increasing the tension by their public speech, ignoring the requirements of the
human rights system.
Unfortunately,
the discourse labeled "new and old", "black and white"
brought to the public social-political platform has been introduced and continues
in our country, which, in fact, is an inadmissible agenda of dividing the
society into groups and sowing discrimination.
In
the same way, it is inadmissible to divide the society into groups by some
words used by certain groups of the political opposition, development of
an agenda to insult people and even its encouragement.
The continuous
and targeted monitoring of the Human Rights Defender's Office prove, that this
inadmissible situation is deepened by the operation of fake pages and fake
accounts of social networks (especially in Facebook) supporting both
authorities and various opposition groups; which carry out organized and
targeted attacks against each other.
As a
result, the entire Armenian social media space has been flooded with swearing
insults, threats, and hate speech to each other, fundamentally violating the
requirements of the human rights system.
This
is a path that leads nowhere, that is full of dangers; it destroys the
democratic values of our country and the achievements of the human rights
system over the years.
The
socio-political system must always be based on human rights as universal and high
values and be guided by the principle of respect for those rights, including
opinion of others.
P.S.
Just yesterday, the Human Rights Defender made a more extensive statement on
this topic, however, taking into account the ongoing worrying developments, the
Defender reiterates its call for solidarity and unity; the respect for human
rights and democratic values has become an imperative.
