The
calls and information of a group of people which refer to the threats and
violence against the pastor of St. Gregory the Illuminator Church in Sisian are
absolutely inadmissible.
The
monitoring of the Human Rights Defender's Office shows that the same dangerous
phenomenon is recorded several times with the pastors of St. Gregory the
Illuminator Church in Nerkin Getashen village and St. Holy Mother of God Church
in Martuni.
Such
alarms were also recorded by the Office of the Human Rights Defender of
Armenia.
This
phenomenon contains risks and should be prevented immediately. First of all, it
is dangerous in terms of tolerance and solidarity in society.
The
Armenian Apostolic Church had an exceptional mission and continues to have the
same mission in the life of the Armenian people and in the preservation of the
national identity. The role of the Armenian Apostolic Church has always been
great in the protection of human rights and the establishment of an atmosphere
of solidarity in the country.
The
state authorities have a duty to take urgent steps to verify the information,
to exclude possible tension, and, above all, any possible case of violence.
The
Human Rights Defender discussed the issue with the Chief of Police of the
Republic of Armenia, who fully assured that the Police will take the necessary
steps to prevent tensions or violence and, in general, any illegal action that
relates to the jurisdiction of the Police.
