The
anger and concerns of the residents of Kapan, Goris, and other cities of Syunik
region, and the residents of the border villages, in relation to the
demarcation and delimitation process of the border in the region, have real
basis.
This
refers to the right to life and other fundamental rights of the residents of
those communities, their physical security and safety, the possibility to
support themselves, and lastly this refers to the security of the state borders
of Armenia.
The
Human Rights Defender, together with the specialist of the Office, pied a
special visit to the Syunik regions, and is convinced about het urgency of
these issues. Moreover, these two days, the Office of the Human Rights Defender
has been receiving alarming-calls related to these same issues from the
residents of the border communities of the Syunik region, and has been
conducting a monitoring of their protests.
We
stress that the Government of the Republic of Armenia, not the regional or
communal bodies of the Syunik region, but the highest body of the executive
authority of our state should provide the public, and specifically the
residents of the border communities with adequate explanations about issues and
developments related to them and our entire public in general.
This
is a right guaranteed to the citizens by the Constitution.
The
direct obligation to ensure this is held by the Government.
