Three working groups from the Office of the Human
Rights Defender of Armenia visited shelters of people transferred from Artsakh
to Armenia to examine their needs and provide assistance in ensuring their
rights.
In shelters located in regions, the Defender's
representatives, including a doctor and psychologist, got acquainted with their
living conditions and needs.
During the visit, private interviews took
place with the people living in the shelters. Primary attention was paid to
children and elderly.
During the visits, representatives of state
and local self-government bodies and citizens volunteering in the shelters
effectively cooperated with the Defender’s representatives.
Issues with regard to social and health needs
of people arrived from Artsakh, their living conditions, guaranteeing food,
clothing, the right to education of children and to social security of elderly,
as well as other issues were discussed with them.
A number of issues raised by the people
living in the shelters have been resolved on the spot.
The results of the monitoring have been summarized
and relevant measures will be undertaken to resolve the issue within the
framework of cooperation with RA state and local self-government bodies.
The issues on ensuring rights of people arrived
from Artsakh are at the center of the Human Rights Defender’s attention.
