At the Human Rights Defender’s
instruction, an unannounced visit was made to Kosh
Penitentiary Institution of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.
Private
interviews with the person on hunger-strike, as well as with other persons
deprived of liberty took place. The latter raised issues connected with health
problems and medical care.
The
Defender’s representatives examined the medical records on the health condition
of the convict on hunger-strike, and provided with necessary legal assistance
with regard to issues raised by him. The convict did not present complaints
with regard to medical or psychological work in connection with hunger-strike.
During
the interview with the Defender’s representatives, the latter noted that he had
applied to a number of state bodies during his hunger-strike but did not
receive a response from any of them.
The
issues recorded during the visit will be summarized within the Human Rights
Defender’s mandate, and official letters will be addressed to the competent
state bodies.
