At the Human Rights Defender’s
instruction, a rapid response group visited Vayq Police Unit. During the visit,
it was revealed that 10 people were subjected to an administrative arrest in
connection with the events around the Amulsar mine exploitation.
In addition, according to the Police, 4
security workers of "Lydian Armenia" were arrested on suspicion of
hooliganism. The Defender's representatives had private interviews with the apprehended
people, including members of the "Green Future" environmental
movement Mr. Vahagn Varagyan and Mr. Rafael Hovhannisyan, examined the
documents related to them.
The Defender's representatives will
also visit the citizens and the representatives of civil society that are on
duty for the non-exploitation of the Amulsar mine.
The Human Rights Defender has been
following the events around the Amulsar mine exploitation since early morning.
The Defender's representatives are in constant contact with the Police, the
Jermuk municipality, and other local government bodies, as well as conducting
monitoring of the protests.
Within his mandate, the Human Rights
Defender continues to keep the developments around the Amulsar mine at the
center of his attention.
