The Human Rights Defender Mr. Arman
Tatoyan published a post on his Facebook page announcing another significant
achievement for our state and the Human Rights Defender’s institution.
“A regular consultation with the newly
elected President of the European Court of Human Rights Mr. Ropert Spano took
place in Strasbourg yesterday. Judge of the European Court of Human Rights Mr.
Armen Harutyunyan, the Registrar of the European Court of Human Rights Mr.
Roderick Liddell and the Head of the President’s Private Office Mr. Patrick
Titiun were also participating in the meeting.
I am glad to inform that taking into
account the international importance of the work of the Human Rights Defender,
the ECHR President proposed to initiate a program with the court aimed at creating
a new international experience of cooperation experience between the ombudsmen
institutions and the European Court in Europe.
The ECHR President proposed the
candidacy of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia as the main the speaker for
those events. Furthermore, we agreed that this could be accomplished through
the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe or by another similar
measure.
The launch of the joint program was
based on the fact that the Human Rights Defender is a party in the European
Court on human Rights, the Defender is submitted independent assessments to the
Council of Europe Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law regarding
the execution of the European Court of Human Rights judgments in respect to
Armenia. Also, the acts of the courts of Armenia reflect the legal positions of
the Human Rights Defender, etc.
The President of the Strasbourg Court praised
the importance of the Human Rights Defender’s reports for the Court and our work
on the introduction of the European Convention on Human Rights and the European
Court of Human Rights’ judgments inside the country.
At the beginning of the meeting, I
congratulated Mr. Ropert Spano on his inauguration as the President of the
European Court of Human Rights and wished him fruitful work and new achievements.
It should be noted that the President of the European Court of Human Rights has
previously been the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Iceland, which further
contributed to the effectiveness of the consultations”, wrote the Human Rights
Defender Mr. Arman Tatoyan.
