Today
and yesterday, the Human Rights Defender had a discussion with the Minister of
Health, as well as the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport
regarding the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The
Defender welcomes the decision on temporarily suspending classes in educational
institutions. Today, in the morning this issue was discussed with the Minister
of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Mr. Arayik Harutyunyan and he had the
same position. Furthermore, now it is extremely important to follow the
official sources, rely exclusively on the information from responsible
authorities and to trust professionals. The state authorities should also
provide the public with detailed information and as often as possible: currently
we have such approach, which is welcomed. This should be done through the media
outlets that provide widespread coverage and by accessible means to people.
The
Human Rights Defender believes that the responsible authorities do not have an
intention to withhold any information from the public, which is welcomed. Misinformation
should be refuted immediately and its dissemination should be excluded. We should
not panic about the COVID-19 and follow the rules of its prevention. All these
issues are under the Defender’s primary attention for taking all the necessary
measures within its mandate.
