Following
a call from Qnar Manukyan, the editor-in-chief of “Joghovurd” daily newspaper,
a rapid response group of the Human Rights Defender’s Office visited the
editorial office. According to the call, unknown persons entered the editorial
office and rummaged it.
The
law-enforcement authorities should take immediate measures to discover what had
occurred, and in particular, the connection between the incident and the
professional work of journalists should be investigated: that should be one of
the main questions of the investigation.
Based
on the visit and conducted examination, relevant official letters will be sent
to the Police and the Prosecutor General's Office.
The
professional work of journalists should be guaranteed. The issues with regard
to the unhindered work of the media are in the spotlight of the Defender: the
effective and full investigation is an important guarantee for addressing this
issue.
