The European Ombudsman Institute (EOI) was established in 1988. Being an independent institution, the EOI is an important center for the exchange of knowledge and information between ombudsmen institutions. Its main purpose is the protection and development of human rights.
The European Ombudsman Institute has a membership of around 40 National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs).
The Republic of Armenia is a member of the European Ombudsman Institute since 2004.
